Two Years to the day

I just wanted to say Happy Anniversary to my wife (and me). Two years ago today, we were in sunny Florida getting married with two weeks of vacation ahead of us.

Today, I struggled for 20 minutes trying to get the Explorer out of a parking spot.

Oh, how I wish I could go back in time. Why do I live here?

Lately I have been itching to make a lunch trip over to Taco Bell. Fubar has been RAVING about the new promotional item, the Bacon Cheddar Gordita Crunch. Let me just say that if you like bacon, this is your item. It lived up to every word Fubar had to say about it.

Media Inconsistency as usual

Berto's email ends with "The only constant is change." I have a new saying, "The only constant in the media is inconsistency."

So, let me get this straight. In 2005, the associated press (and everyone else) jumped all over Bush for spending $40m on his inauguration and that was when the economy was in good shape.

Lets fast forward to 2009. The AP now pulls a 180 on Obama's 45m cost for his inauguration. “For inaugural balls, go for glitz, forget economy,”.

If you want to give Bush a hard time for spending $40m, I am fine with that. Be consistent. Do not turn around and then say it is okay for Obama for spend $45m. ARGH!

Bacon Lovers of Chicago

So, I was over at Nelson's desk, working diligently (as usual) and we stumbled across this website, 14 spots to find 2008’s most popular pork product.

Let me just say that some of these ideas just sound amazing! I am all for bacon wrapped ribs, a burger that has bacon as its bun, country-fried bacon...i mean what a great and organized list.

I think my goal for '09 should be to hit at least half of these places.

Who is with me?

I am dumb.

So on Sunday night, we ended up not bowling. So when I got to the car, I put my bowling balls in the trunk (usually I put them in the back seat). We then proceeded to the Purple Otter for a couple beers. When we got home, my bowling balls were out of sight and out of mind.

Fast forward to Tuesday. I have league night on Tuesdays. Michelle has class. After work, I walked to the explorer and drove home. MIchelle had already left for class in the car. I looked around the house and could not find my bowling balls. I realized Michelle had them.

I am carrying a 171 average on Tuesdays. There is no way I would be able to come within 10 pins of that with a house ball. I called my teammates and told them to blind me. Maybe they got someone to sub. I do not know.

So instead, I went to the gym with Fubar. Our workout was pretty intense. At one point, Fubar threw up. Good times!

My bowling balls are back safely in the house. No way that happens again!

Baseball HOF

Shame on you baseball hall of fame voters. Rickey Henderson going in on the first ballot is a no brainer. 28 people did not vote for him. That is actually shocking. What I can not believe is that Jim Rice gets voted in on his last year of eligibility. Why not vote in Joe Carter? Oh wait, I know why. If Jim Rice would have played his entire career in Pittsburgh, he would never be in. Thanks to his Boston affiliation and the east coast bias that exists in sports, he is going in. Shame on you media.

What is driving me nuts is Bert Blyleven is not in yet. He is a no brainer but these idiot voters look at his win loss record and not at his peripherals. However, he is 5th all-time in strikeouts and 14th in innings. He was a great pitcher for many years.

Don't even get me started on Tim Raines. What a joke. He lost votes from last year. WHAT. He should be a LOCK for the hall of fame. WHAT A JOKE!

NFL

The NFL this year has been very bizarre. Home field advantage has not meant anything this year. I can not believe that in the playoffs ONLY one home team won last weekend. I went 0-4 in my predictions last week. No one and I mean no one had Arizona winning that game against Carolina. Tennessee shot themselves in the foot. Yikes.

Well, I hope the Steelers win it all. I think they have a good chance. I think it will be Pittsburgh and Philadelphia in the superbowl but given my track record for predicting games, get ready for Baltimore/Arizona superbowl.

Back to Bowling and Injuries...not good.

So, at the Thanksgiving game I injured my right thumb. I thought it was just a jam down by the palm. It does not hinder typing (for work) or even when I lift. Every now and then (at least 2 to 3 times a day), it hit it the wrong way or grab something the wrong way. It is a sharp pain. It has not got better but I have thought nothing by it.

Well, when I put the bowling ball in my hand, it was sheer pain. Not good. Luckily, swinging the ball and throwing it, did not hurt. Putting the ball in my hand every time not so good. I am having someone look at it on Thursday. So annoyed.

So, I am averaging a 170 through the year and last night was no different. I had a 159, 180, 200. The last game I opened in the tenth. I was not happy. I am happy with a 539 series for not bowling for 6 weeks.

Goodbye Bread and HELLO POTATOES!

So, I am back on the potatoe train. I had some waffle fries from Chick-fil-a on the 1st, maybe the 31st before midnight. I also some chips right after midnight. Since potatoes have been back in my life, I have had tator tots twice. They are as good as I remember them. Well, on to my 2009, and I am giving up bread. Lets not go too crazy here. I am not giving up breaded chicken. I will try to avoid croutons if possible. I am mainly doing this to force me to eat more salads and less sandwiches.

So no bread in 2009 with the following exceptions:

- Pizza is still allowed (i am human!)
- Rules are out at tailgates. It just makes it easier. How am I going to hold a hamburger patty and a beer in my hands with no bun???
- Rules are out at professional sporting events. No way I go to a baseball game and not have a hotdog.
- Publix subs are allowed. I am hardly by these guys. Actually, I am not sure about this rule. We will see how the year goes.
- Wraps are allowed.

That is it. '09 - the year of salad!

Is the year over yet? Will I last? I just do not know.

2008 Goal

I am a little behind in my blogging. Bear with me. Michelle and I had a a great holiday starting with my parents house on December 22. Then of course we had a great time in Florida for whatever amount of days we were down there. We did have the drive from hell coming back on the first day. We got caught about 5 minutes behind a bad accident. We sat just north of Atlanta on I65 for one hour without moving as they cleaned up the accident. Just two hours earlier, for 23 miles between Macon and Atlanta, the average speed was 19 mph. Fun times. The second day, it took us 6 hours flat to go 420 miles. Great day!

Anyway, my main goal for 2008 was 150 workouts. Well, I actually achieved that on December 1 and ended up with 162. I will now be taking the workout count off my blog.

I really do not have a goal for this year. With an addition to the family coming, I am sure my world will be turned upside down.
