Biggest Loser Math

So, now that it is down to the final four and Ron has no chance of winning, I wanted to take a closer look at the final three contestants.

Mike - 5'11", 18 years old. Original Weight - 388 lbs. Wow...he is only 5'11". He has lost 164 lbs so far and weighs 224. At 5'11" he could easily get to 180 lbs. Lets say he ends at 180 flat. That is a loss of 53.608%.

Tara - 5'9", 23 years old. Original Weight - 294 lbs. She is pretty tall. She has lost 125 lbs. She weighs 169. To keep up with Mike, she needs to lose 33 more lbs. That would be a loss of 53.74%. That also puts her at 136 lbs. I dont think she can get that skinny. That is really light but who knows.

Helen - 5'6", 47 years old. Original Weight - 257 lbs. She has lost 103 lbs. She weighs 154 lbs. She needs to end at 118 lbs to have a chance I think at winning this. That would put her at 54.08% loss. Can she do this? I think no way.

Now to put it a different way, Mike has to lose 44 more lbs to get to 180 or 19.6% of his weight. Tara has to lose 19.5% of her weight and Helen has to lose 23.4% of her weight. Helen is basically out too.

I personally think Tara is out too. Cutting down to belwo 140 will be much tougher I think than a 5'11" guy cuting to 180.

That is why they play the game!

Biggest Loser

I have two different comments to discuss about biggest loser. One is about the grip strength competition and one is about nutrition.

The competition - My initial reaction when they described the event was that the lighter people have an advantage. I really thought Helen was going to win. These contestants were way off. This was not an upper body strength exercise at all. This was a flat out grip strength exercise. Take a weight and hold it in your hands. It did not surprise me at all that Tara and Helen were the last two. I thought Kristen would have been the first to fall. Of course, Mike being afraid of heights did not help him. Basically this competition was my like holding a deadlift in the locked position. It is going to pull on your back but I guarantee the first thing to fail is going to be your grip. One hour I thought was incredible. I am not sure if I could hold 225 for one hour and I know I am not going to find out. So do not listen to these contestants. That was all about grip strength.

Nutrition - I am shocked that the biggest loser does not have nutritionist on the show. Bob was spot on with his rant. These people are starving themselves. No wonder Kristen is struggling to lose weight. Your body shuts down. I know this sounds wierd but you need to eat more (of the right food) to lose more. Your body needs fuel to work. It is so ridiculous what they are doing. Also, they need to eat more protein. My god. Protein is probably the number one nutrient American do not eat near enough of. What are they thinking? 16 weeks on the show and this is how they are eating??? It is so ridiculous. Eat protein with every meal. I was floored by how horrible their eating habits were. They were so bad. I would have lost it much worse than Bob did.

I am not even sure who I am rooting for at this point.

Mike - Hate his father and he is already celebrating his victory. Can I root for this? It is like rooting for Man U.
Ron - Hate him. Ruined the season. Get rid of that skin.
Tara - Annoying. Thinks the world is against her. Wont shut up. Blah Blah Blah.
Helen - When pink team had to send someone home, she sent her daughter instead of her. Way to take one for your kid, mom.
Filipe - Liked him and then did not like him. A bit of a cry baby, continually gets embarrassed by Tara in competitions.

Weekend Wrap-Up

So this weekend was another action packed weekend that I will wrap up in bullet form as usual.

1. My parents celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary this weekend. Just a little shout out to them. 45 years is a long time.
2. Samantha had her first church experience and since it felt like 100 degrees in there, it did not go too well. Thank goodness for baby rooms.
3. Michelle and I finally packed accordingly for our over night stay in the burbs and did not have to drive back into the city for anything.
4. Saturday night's dinner after mass was at the Red Ox. My soon to be nine year old nephew said that it was fitting that Samantha was going to the Red Ox since she was born in the year of the Ox. Where does he learn this stuff?
5. After dinner, Michelle and I met Bryan and Mary out at Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the UFC PPV. Half the place was watching the hockey game and half was watching UFC. The roof almost came off when the Blackhawks scored their third goal in the 2nd period.
6. Buffalo Wild Wings had 20 beers on tap. So we ripped up two pieces of paper and anytime someone needed a beer we just drew a new number. It was a fun game.
7. Sunday's drive home sucked. There was an accident that slowed us down.
8. I bowled horrible on Sunday. I crapped the bed and then rolled around in it. I broke 400 but barely.
9. I am really sick of 40 degrees and raining. This spring has been really cold. One of the colder springs that I can remember.
10. Have a good week and lets hope I bowl a little better tonight. Only two more weeks of bowling in both leagues!

Mother Russia

Ok, I need to first thank Funk for finding this article. After reading it, it was too good not to share with everyone else. Long story short is the following:

1. Guy goes into beauty salon and tries to rob the place.
2. Hair dresser who studies martial arts drops guy to floor and ties him up in the back.
3. She then feeds him Viagra and makes him her sex slave for48 hours.
4. She lets him go.
5. He goes to police and files sexual assualt charges.
6. She files attempted robbery charges.

You can not make this stuff up!

Top 5 is back! Kurt Russell Movies!

So, out of the whim, I am bringing the top 5 back this week. A few weeks ago I asked my readers who they thought was a better actor: Swayze or Russell. Well, Russell won easily. In honor of this win, I am going to list my top 5 Kurt Russell movies.

1. Tombstone - #1 was a no brainer. Actually, Val Kilmer plays the best role in the movie in my humble opinion but this movie is too good not to be #1.
2. Big Trouble in Little China - "This is Jack Burton in the Pork Chop Express, and I'm talkin' to whoever's listenin' out there. "
3. Overboard - I know. It is way to high but I have a hard time turning this movie off when I see it on tv and it is on all the time. Plus this movie was the catalyst for the romance between Russell and Goldie Hawn
4. Tango and Cash - Interesting fact about this movie, Patrick Swayze dropped out of the role and Russell stepped in. That was a lucky break for all of us!
5. Escape from New York - A little outdated, okay a lot outdated but still a good action movie.

I also want to give a shoutout to Used Cars, a very funny underrated movie.

Happy hump day.

Friday Afternoon Random Thoughts

1. Yeah to three day weekends! I am taking Monday off. I could not me more excited.
2. The Masters is so fun to watch. Tiger is lingering around but he need to make a run tomorrow if he wants a shot at this. He needs to shoot 67 or 68 tomorrow. We shall see if he can do this.
3. I talked about the great week of sports and left of the UEFA cup. Well, after Liverpool got smoked at home 3-1, things are not looking good.
4. I had the pleasure of dealing with the city of Chicago office today trying to get Samantha's birth certificate. Lets jut hope it actually comes in the mail in 3-4 weeks.
5. I am sick of this cold weather and I am sure I am not alone.
6. There is talk of Village Tap for dinner. It has been awhile since we have been there. Could be a good time!
7. Have a good weekend!

Baseball predictions

I am going to run through some baseball predictions so I can come back here in 6 months and make fun of them.

First, neither of last year's WS teams will make the playoffs.

AL
The Red Sox and Yankees will both make the playoffs.
The AL central is hard to predict. I mean anything could happen. Last place team will have 72 or more wins. First place team will have 85 or less. Lets hope the Sox can pull it off. I am not too optomistic.
The AL west is now wide open. The Angels just are not very good. Why they didn't go after Manny is beyond me. I think the A's pull off the upset.
In the end, the Red Sox go to the WS.

NL

The Mets finally get it done and win thier division but with the Braves right on their heels.
The Cubs walk away with the easiest division in all of baseball. Their lack of challenges with hurt them come playoff time.
The Dodgers edge out the Diamondbacks for the West.

I am saying the Braves make it to the WS and in typical Braves fashion, lay down to the Red Sox.

I am looking forward to seeing all of these predictions fail!

Cheers!

End of an era

Barbasol shaving cream. Yes, my blog is about shaving cream.

So, I have used the same can of shaving cream for getting close to two years now. It has been Mr. Reliable day in and day out for me. What is even crazier is that Michelle bought it at the dollar store. Well, on Monday, Mr. Reliable had his last stand. I am now on to my his cousin, Mr. Automatic.

This blog is my little tribute to you for all your hard work!

Sports Week

This is a great week of sports. Lets review

1. Baseball is back and in full swing. It is great to watch some innings and baseball starting just means that spring is "here" and summer is CLOSE. YES!
2. The NCAA championship was Monday (even though this year the game sucked). I am sure Neyer was happy.
3. The superbowl of wrestling was on Sunday, wrestlemania. This year was the 25 year anniversary. It was fun to watch.
4. The Masters starts tomorrow. Yes, I am openly rooting for Tiger but I love this event in general. What a beautiful golf course Bobby Jones made down there in Georgia.
5. Last but not least the NBA regular season is coming to an end which means that most of these games have the feel of a playoff game as team jockey for position.

Good sports week!

Its Friday!

It is Friday and the weekend is here. YEAH! So here are some thoughts.

1. Cutler is gone from Denver and now in Chicago. I liked him as a player but this whole debacle needed to end. So good luck Cutler. Hope you do well in Chicago.
2. Samantha blew by her birth weight this week and gained 10 oz. She is just under 7 lbs.
3. This week's biggest loser was another example of how stress can bite you in the arse. This week was pretty boring. The same people that we started with we have now. Great...
4. Baseball season starts this Sunday. I am super excited. I may have to catch some of the first game.
5. Now that we are getting more settled in with Samantha, I need to start hitting the gym more regularly. It is very hard to leave the house once I am there though.
6. I really dont have a 6th point but I just wanted to end on 7 so I am filling this is with absolutely nothing. HAHAHAHA.
7. Have a happy FRIDAY and WEEKEND!

Worst blog ever...
