Three years ago today, Michelle and I got married. Today, she is in SF for work and I get to take care of a sick baby.

Loyola - Butler Recap
Honestly, I do not know where to begin. I have been watching Loyola basketball for 15 years. I have always been an avid fan of the program. It has been quite a journey starting with the rafters of Alumni gym to the court side seats of Gentile center.
Loyola has had a few big games in Gentile center in the past. Last night was no exception. 20th ranked Butler strolled into town and I could not have been more proud of the hostile environment Loyola created for them. The student section was full on both ends (never happens) and very energetic. As we were taking our seat before the game, more and more people were pouring in. Gentile was close to a sellout (never happens). Plus, it was easily the best energy level I have ever experienced at Gentile center from beginning to end.
Now, Butler did not play like a nationally ranked team and if they are playing up to their potential, we do not have a shot. However, that was not the case last night and we played well enough to keep the game close. In the end, we lost by 1, missing a three pointer and a tip-in to end the game. It was heartbreaking way to lose but I would have not wanted to lose any other way.
Every Loyola fan there got a glimpse of what could be. It was an exciting competitive college basketball game with energy levels that go along with any good college program. If we could improve our program, we could have games like last night's on a consistent basis. It is not that far off.
In the end, I was devastated by the loss but I take much from that game and experience. It shows me that Loyola has come a long way from their games at Alumni gym and maybe just maybe might be on a path to having a decent college program.
I can dream. Can't I?

LU game tonight!
LU takes on #20 ranked Butler tonight at 7 pm (ranking is USA today poll). Consider me FIRED UP! Honestly, I do not think Loyola has much of a chance but lets hope I am wrong. I checked out the spread for the game. Butler is only favored by 11.5 pts. The over/under is 127.
Taking Butler with the points sure does seem like a good bet. However, I promised never to bet against Loyola again in my life.
Anyway, maybe a slice of pizza from Carmen's for dinner with a beer or two from Bruno's and some rambler basketball. I call this a great way to spend a Thursday night!

Random Friday
So, it has been a couple busy weeks. Who knew when you take off two weeks from work coming back sucks????
1. Michelle was out of town for work on Tuesday and Wednesday. Samantha decided it would be a good time to catch a virus. It was a fun two days for me and her! Luckily, she seems to be doing better.
2. I have become addicted to an application on facebook called Vinny's sports book Basically, it is like gambling in Vegas or with a bookie but the chips are not real money. Luckily, it is not real money because I am on a COLD streak. I am terrible at picking NBA games.
3. Heading out to the burbs tomorrow to watch both Jackson and Jeremy play basketball. It should be a good time!
4. I think Bryan has picked a weekend for his bachelor party - June 4-6. Consider me excited.
5. I have been talking about whiskyfest for a few years now. I bought a ticket yesterday. The event is April 23.
6. The Biggest Loser shows finds bigger and bigger people each season. This has to plateau at some point right? Is this show going to be filled with 1,000 lb people???? It is crazy.
7. Long live John Elway!

Tim Duncan - Player of the Decade
Ok, it is driving me nuts that the main stream media is trying to label Kobe the player of the decade. He might be player #1 right now or last year and this year but come on. Can you seriously tell me that from 2000 to 2007 if the Lakers called the Spurs and offered Bryant for Duncan straight up, the Spurs would have said yes. NO WAY.
Hell, in 2007, the Lakers were trying to get rid of him. If the Bulls would have thrown in Luo Deng, Bryant would have been a Bull. That is NOT your player of the decade. BTW, Spurs - best decade record. Not surprising...
Now, if you want to say Garnett was player of the decade. Fine. It really is between Duncan and Garnett. Personally, Duncan did whatever his team wanted from him especially come playoff time. You need me to score. Fine. You need me to lock down on defense and take less shots. Fine. He never cared about personal stats and he always stepped up. He cared about winning. I think he is top 10 greatest players of all time. Too bad he played in San Antonio and is a quiet guy. He is very underrated.
It is a shame his legs are starting to go. I bet he retires end of 2011 season. He will be missed!

911
One thing that annoys me about blackberrys if the locked screen. You options are one of the three - Unlock, Emergency, Cancel. If you hit emergency, it asks you if you are sure (yes or no). Listen if somone is breaking in, I want to be able to hit 911 and be done. I dont want to answer questions.
Well, this morning I was fishing my phone out of my pocket and I must have hit emergency call and hit yes to it. By the time I saw what was happening I was already connected to 911. I quickly hung up. Oops. Then a second later, the Chicago police department was calling me. I answered the phone and explained what happened. I felt so stupid.
What a way to start my day off. Welcome back to the grind!

Fried Food - ok...deep fried food
Over the holiday, I have been eating like a 300lb Wisconsin guy at a Vegas buffet. It has not been pretty. While I am going to lock down a little the next couple months, I have decided to give up fried foods for my new year's resolution. If you want me to be more specific, I have given up deep fried foods. I consider a burger to still be okay. However, wings, chips, chicken fingers, onion rings - they are all gone. Any chip I have has to be baked.
It is going to be a long year but I think I can make it.

Man, the time went by fast. I swear yesterday was December 18th and I was hoping in the jeep, heading to Florida looking forward to having TWO weeks off of work.
Now, it is January 4th...what happened?????
1. The road trip down was very smooth. Samantha did great. She slept for 11 hours straight through the night while Michelle and I drove. Thank you Samantha!
2. The road trip back had worse weather but in the end, same scenario. Samantha did great. That is all we could really ask for.
3. Random thought I had. This was the third year in a row we have made this drive and we have done this drive with three different cars.
4. Florida was great. I golfed a few times, went to the magic/celtics game on Christmas day and we spent a couple days in Sarasota. The time down there went by so fast.
5. I got the Super Mario Bros for Wii. This is basically Super Mario Bros 3 but for the Wii. Here is the kicker. You can play up to 4 people at once on any level. Where was this for regular nintendo????? Contra could play two players at once. I feel like part of my childhood has been cheated...
6. Once we got back from Florida, we headed right to a New Year's Eve wedding reception. Between the drive, a cold I found and being over-served at the party (I complained to the front desk!!! OK - no I didn't), the next day was top 5 hangovers of all time.
7. Of course that next day was the day I spent with my nephews, brother, my parents for Christmas. It was a good time but boy did I feel bad!
8. In the end, it was a great break. I got great gifts and everything went well. Why did it end so quickly????
