Highlights from LU game

I can neither confirm nor deny if that is me at the 57 sec mark.

Loyola - Butler Recap

Honestly, I do not know where to begin. I have been watching Loyola basketball for 15 years. I have always been an avid fan of the program. It has been quite a journey starting with the rafters of Alumni gym to the court side seats of Gentile center.

Loyola has had a few big games in Gentile center in the past. Last night was no exception. 20th ranked Butler strolled into town and I could not have been more proud of the hostile environment Loyola created for them. The student section was full on both ends (never happens) and very energetic. As we were taking our seat before the game, more and more people were pouring in. Gentile was close to a sellout (never happens). Plus, it was easily the best energy level I have ever experienced at Gentile center from beginning to end.

Now, Butler did not play like a nationally ranked team and if they are playing up to their potential, we do not have a shot. However, that was not the case last night and we played well enough to keep the game close. In the end, we lost by 1, missing a three pointer and a tip-in to end the game. It was heartbreaking way to lose but I would have not wanted to lose any other way.

Every Loyola fan there got a glimpse of what could be. It was an exciting competitive college basketball game with energy levels that go along with any good college program. If we could improve our program, we could have games like last night's on a consistent basis. It is not that far off.

In the end, I was devastated by the loss but I take much from that game and experience. It shows me that Loyola has come a long way from their games at Alumni gym and maybe just maybe might be on a path to having a decent college program.

I can dream. Can't I?

LU game tonight!

LU takes on #20 ranked Butler tonight at 7 pm (ranking is USA today poll). Consider me FIRED UP! Honestly, I do not think Loyola has much of a chance but lets hope I am wrong. I checked out the spread for the game. Butler is only favored by 11.5 pts. The over/under is 127.

Taking Butler with the points sure does seem like a good bet. However, I promised never to bet against Loyola again in my life.

Anyway, maybe a slice of pizza from Carmen's for dinner with a beer or two from Bruno's and some rambler basketball. I call this a great way to spend a Thursday night!

GO RAMBLERS!

Sunday was A GREAT DAY TO BE A RAMBLER!

HELL YES LU!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow, just wow. Loyola defeats the number 15 team in the nation, Butler! YES!!!!!!

How big of an upset is this? Well, check the RPI: Butler came in No. 13, Loyola No. 219. Whether you like the RPI measure or not, either way, one team is very good and one team is not so good.

Now, LU ends the season with three home games. Hopefully, we win both conference games.

On a sidenote, with LU beating Butler as my motivation, I bowled a 569 last night or average a 190. We too 5 out of 7 points as a team. Again, yesterday was a great day to be rambler!

NCAA Tournament!

A co-worker of mine, Squire, told me you can print off any NCAA bracket ever from espn.com. Well, I jumped on that like white on rice! Please find below two very important brackets in Loyola - Chicago history. The first one is the 1963 bracket. If you notice, the only close game was the championship and their average margin of victory was 23 points.

Here is another great one. LU rolled to the sweet 16 but were knocked out by a great team in Georgetown. It is hard to have an answer Patrick Ewing. It took Villanova shooting over 70% from the field to beat them by 2.

In both brackets, KY is the site of the finals. Anyway, I thought these were very cool!

If anyone else wants to check out other brackets (not sure why you would), here is the link.

Nice job Tracy!

Tracy Robinson hit a three pointer at the buzzer to beat Youngstown St on Thursday! I wish I was there. I wish I could have seen that.

Lets hope that this is Tracy's break-out game. He can be the best player on the team if he wants to. He just has to realize it.

I hope this is a turn in the season!

LU!

Lu had a big win on Saturday night! They beat Valpo by two points! It was a come from behind win and a much needed one at that! Too bad I missed the game entirely.

Nice job Ramblers!

LU Outlook

Now that I have been to two LU games (one good and one bad), I have a better feel for the team.

This Rambler team is going to miss Blake more than anyone is willing to admit. I hate to also mention Majak and his amazing all around game. Despite losing two very talented seniors, they will have an okay season.

As coach says, this team is scrappy. Yes, their offense is missing the weapons and yes, we will stuggle against big teams but this team plays extremely hard on defense. They never quit and always continue to attack. They do not have much of a chance against Butler but everyone else in the division they can hang with. No game will be a blowout but they probably wont win too many.

HOWEVER, there is an offensive player that is able to play starting January 1. This could change everything. This team is fun to root for because the effort is always there.

Lets hope I am wrong! GO LU!

LU...and Andruw Jones...I am excited!

I am going to my first Rambler game of the season tonight. After the game, I will post my thoughts on the rest of the season. I have been so much traveling that I have already missed three home games. I am just excited to be going up to campus for the game.

Andruw Jones signed a two year contract with the Dodgers! That is awesome! He is a declining star so the two years is ideal. I have argued with a fellow braves fan for years now that Andruw Jones is overrated these days when it comes to defense. Andruw Jones is still a good player and the Dodgers need a CF. Juan Pierre...worst contract by far that Ned Colletti has done since coming over. Now that we have Andruw Jones, Juan Pierre is no longer our centerfielder. YESSSSSSSSS! I say cut him (even though he is entitles to $36m over the next four years...crying, I am crying).

If the Dodgers even think of moving Juan Pierre to left, I am will go CRAZY! Left field is an easy defensive position. That is why a big bat usually plays LF. Pierre did not have enough bat to play CF. They can not put him there. I will lose my mind. Let Andre Ethier play LF. AHHHHHHHHH!

Its a good day. LU basketball tonight and the Dodgers moving in the right direction.
