Andy's Staycation - April 7, 2014: Day 2 - Monday

Are you ready to begin my true staycation?  Let me tell you Monday was pretty busy!  On a sidenote, it cracks me up when my mom tells me that her day was so busy.  Let me also tell you that she is retired.  Both her and my dad are retired.  I know she has obligations, things to do and it is all relative.  I mean Michelle and I both work downtown with pretty demanding jobs and are raising two kids who just turned 2 and 5.  My busy and my parents 'busy' are a little different.  With that being said, I have a new appreciation for a retired person's busy.

(Sidenote: I will take a retired person's busy over my busy any day of the week! Haha.  Do not get confused on that)

Monday was supposed to be my day and it was for the most part.  The week before we received the following letter from Samantha's classroom.

Dear parents,

To celebrate the week of the young child we are inviting any parents who would like to come in and show off a talent they may have. This could include hobbies, music, or just reading to the children. Please sign up with Ms. Lauren if you are interested in volunteering from Monday April 7th up for 20 min. activities. Thank you in advance for helping us celebrate your amazing children.Miss Elisa our music teacher would also like to invite any children who have instruments at home to bring them in for Music class on Monday April 7th through Thursday April 10th.  Please no battery operated instruments.

The Pre-K Teachers

Well, I signed up to go in at 10 am on Monday morning.  I do not have any talents.  Looking back, I could have brought in my violin and played some simple songs but my violin isn't tuned and needs some love.  So, instead I had Samantha pick out two books.

I dropped the kids off at school.  I dropped Michelle off at a train. I then headed to Home Depot because Michelle over the weekend said in passing that they had cactuses on sale there.  She used to have one at her desk and I thought it would be a nice treat for her.  I also needed a couple minor things for the house.  So, I picked up the cactuses (ended up getting one for the house too) and ran home.  By the time, I got home it was 9:30.

I was not going into this classroom empty handed.  I know how to get kids to pay attention and like me...bribery!  So, I ran to cvs, picked up some Doc McStuffin stickers and headed to daycare.  Sadly, I was nervous.  Samantha did a good job of picking out two very different books.  One book was a princess book about spring time and one was about star wars.  I told the kids I would ask three questions at end of each book and a correct answer would result in a sticker.  This trick worked great.  At the end, I gave everyone who didn't get a sticker one and I was out the door.  It was a successful start to the day.  Also a teacher at the end of the day told me that the kids kept expecting stickers from each parent after me.  Hahaha.  Oops.

After reading, I went home, changed, cleaned up some and went to Yoga at noon.   After Yoga, I had a doctors appointment. In between yoga and doc appointment, I cleaned up the house.  When doc appointment was over, it was like 4 pm.  What happened to my day???  I didn't work (well, i worked for like an hour total in there) but man, it was busy with random stuff.  Now, I get it when my mom says she was busy.  Despite minimal couch time, it was a good start to my week.
