So last Thursday we had a LATE softball game, 9:40 start. We were missing a lot of people so we pulled in three subs. On a sidenote, thank you subs!
So, our defense as usual was playing strong. This week Mary subbed for us and played 2nd. She played great. That is now two weeks in a row we had a sub play awesome at 2nd. We could not get our bats going. We were losing 5-2 going into the bottom of the 7th. Well, our bats finally starting producing. We scored 3 runs and forced extra innings.
In the top of the 8th, we gave up a run. In the bottom of hte 8th, we end up scoring 2 and getting the win!
Since Friday was a holiday for most and there was a broken down paddy wagon by our field, we decided to head to our roof top to celebrate the win.
We are now 2-1 with a plus 10 run differential through three games!

Dodgers and Softball.
Matt Kemp owes me an apology. The dodgers lost to the white sox in 13 or 14 innnings last Thursday. I do not even remember now. Matt Kemp who is usually our best hitter went 0 for 7 and cost us the game defensively. ARGH! He blew a routine fly ball to start the inning and cause the final run to be scored. You owe me a jersey!
Softball last thursday was awesome. We won 12-2 in 5 innings. We were winning 12-0 in the 5th but gave up 2 runs. We were only playing with nine people and we had to take an automatic out at the bottom of the lineup because we only had three girls.
Michelle who had not played softball in almost 2 years played great. Her first two at bats she got timely hits. She was playing 2nd base and had a lot of action. I think she had 5 put outs during the game. She looked like she had been playing 2nd her whole life. She was worried about playing so it was a nice surprise to play that well. Our team really came together and I think we will be a force to reckon with this year. Our defensive is good which will keep us in every game. Should be a great year.

Softball - Game 1
Last Thursday, we started our 16 inch co-rec softball team. For the most part, the team is the same. Last year, due to our defense, we were able to make it to the final 4.
This year, we started off rusty. Our offense was okay but our defense was giving up outs. We ended up losing 10-9. We were the home team and had a guy on 3rd when we got our third out. reat close game but if we were in mid-season, we would have smoked that team.
I played ok and I think we have a decent team. Should be a good year!

Win and.... WIN!!!!!!!! YESSSS!!!!!
Finally! Our softball came to play last night. We finally put together an offensive game (the first one) and a game where we never had the always famous 'bad defensive inning'.
For tournament, they combine two leagues into one bracket. We were 6th place team in our league out of 12 teams. Our first game was against the 11th place team from the other league. We were solid favorites in Vegas. We showed up and scored some runs today, good sign. We had our bad inning and some bad base running but won 13-5. Very nice.
The second game was very tight. We played the 3rd place team in the other league. We always play good defensive so we are in any game. After two innnings, it was 1-1. We then busted out for 3 runs and that was enough for the game. We ended up winning 4-3. We were visitors and in the last inning, we gave up 2 runs.
Erin Smith saved the game and played PHENOMENAL first base defense. She ended the game with jumping in the air to catch the ball thrown to her and she spun around in the air and tagged the guy out at before he got to first. Awesome play. MVP last night!
After the game, a little later, a couple guys dumped some ice down my back. What are they going to do three games from now...
Now, the league has not updated the bracket yet but there is a chance we are playing the 2nd place team from our league. We will be the underdogs but as long as we keep playing good defense, we can play with anyone.
As coach Norman Dale says "There’s a condition in tournament play; do not talk about the next step until you’ve climbed the one in front of you."

Domination!
We won in softball last night by slaughter rule. Technically, we did not have to play. We could have taken the forfeit since the other team only had 7 people but we wanted to play. So it was a live game. We caught for them so that helped. We started of slow but eveything came together for us (except my hitting which was awful). Our defense played really well. Fubar pitched great and we put up a 7 spot in the 2nd inning and never look back. The called the game in the bottom of the 5th. We are back at .500 looking to get back into the winning side of things.

Softball begins (and ends in my eyes)
Last night softball began. I am doing this summary in bullet form.
- Michelle had a great idea for making lemonade vodka. She bought a gallon of water, poured some of it out, added vodka and mix and shook it up. Under 2 min, you have vodka lemonade. Why were we not doing this earlier?
- We played Murphey's team and won. Again. This makes four years in a row we beat Murph but who is counting!
- I was happy and sad we played Murph last night. We now have nothing to look forward to. That is always the most fun game of the year.
- Rust. If I could describe the game with one word, it would be rust.
- Purple Otter. This bar could quickly become our softball bar. It didn't hurt that Fubar was the bartender last night.
Have a great weekend!
